Immigration to Inspiration!

Meet Our Students

Introducing, Tarah, Dima, Sanarya, Shaymaa, and Layla, all students of Agents of Hope Training and Information Center (AHTIC). These refugees from Iraq and Jordan all found themselves in different parts of the United States searching for work, support, and belonging. Each of these women had different immigration experiences and backgrounds. Some came with children and husbands while others came with siblings and parents. However, all faced some overlapping challenges. Some have been here for nearly a decade and still find language, education, and employment as a few of the major obstacles. For some receiving citizenship has helped these factors. For others, learning English from their children has helped them most to adapt to the United States.

Agents of Hope Impact

From Illinois to Michigan and Connecticut, each of these individuals learned about AHTIC through a current student, Nana (CEO), or their university. These ladies are bright, educated, and full of hope. Being a part of AHTIC has taught these individuals many things: computer skills, communication, and confidence being a few. AHTIC has given students direct access to classes that will build their skill set and resume to enhance their life here in the United States. They have learned how to vouch for themselves, support their friends and family, and expand on skills which have helped them through everyday life. AHTIC also acts as a support system. The staff and students have found friendship in each other. They are motivated by one another to work hard to achieve their goals. AHTIC gives these ladies purpose and support when their communities will not. After a long journey to get here, and still a long road ahead, AHTIC is one stepping stone to feel a sense of belonging and accomplishment.

The Future

AHTIC students are this organization’s number one priority. Some want to be teachers, bankers, or nurses! AHTIC has given these women new friends, new opportunities, education, and a support group which is irreplaceable. They look forward to being able to provide and care for their families here in the United States thanks to AHTIC.
